1st Annual Run with the Troops

On Saturday, December 2, 2006, SFUWO held the 1st Annual Southernmost Run with the Troops 5 Miler.  This race started at the SFUWO compound, with the course going along the coast line of Fleming Key, through the Coast Guard Sector and back.  Participants ages ranged from 10 to 66 years old.  Runners included members of the Key West running community and the Southernmost Runners, local military personnel from all branches, SFUWO staff and family members, and retired military and civilians from as far Kansas and Utah.  We were especially pleased to welcome a father and son, Frank and Dave Sellier, on vacation from the Netherlands.  In spite of having to adjust to the Key West heat, Dave place 2nd in his age group!

The proceeds from this race benefitted the SFUWO Family Readiness Group/Morale, Welfare and Recreation, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and the Key West High School Track Team.

This race would not have been possible without the hard work of the volunteers: Major Pete Russo and Teresa Russo, Jennifer Lightfield, Donna Witt, Matthew French, MSG Jeff Burns and Rae Burns, GM1 Nathan Khol and Trina Khol, MSG Chris Bullard and Christine Bullard, MSG Chris Mohr and Tara Mohr, SFC Toby Halbert, SSG Tony Sacoto, SFC Hunter Tiblier, SFC Carlos Saldana and Daniela Saldana, Major Jonathan Stabile, Jack Joplin (U.S. Army SF retired) and Kat Joplin, Ray Sears (U.S. Army SF retired), Robert Baggett (U.S. Army SF retired) and Sue Baggett, Jim Brooks (U.S. Air Force Pilot retired) and Kathy Brooks, CW4 Clay McPeak, SFC Jake Spring, SGM Bill Houston, Major Patrick Leslie and Jennifer Leslie.

A special thanks to the Southernmost Runners and Don Nelson.
